How to think through calibration failure without defaulting immediately to detector replacement.
Calibration failure is a symptom, not a diagnosis. The reason may lie in the gas, the sample path, the detector, the timing, or the input assumptions.
Confirm calibration gas identity, bottle condition, pressure, switching path, recent maintenance, and any method or configuration changes.
If the analyser cannot repeat itself on the reference gas, the problem is often more fundamental than the calibration result alone suggests.
Timing drift, contamination, valve condition, utility instability, or detector issues can all produce calibration failure.
A useful history of calibration outcomes makes it much easier to distinguish a sudden event from a slow decline.
